Our Story

A family
operation

Black Duck Waterfowl is family owned and operated by TJ and Ashton Mallette, and every hunt is hosted by them personally.

Who We Are

Over the years we have guided hunters across North America, proudly earning the trust of clients who have returned season after season.

As waterfowl hunting continues to evolve, we see Missouri as one of the premier destinations in the country, and we are excited to continue building the future of Black Duck Waterfowl on a property with a proven reputation for producing exceptional duck hunting.

Our Philosophy

Relationships matter as much
as the hunting does

We intentionally keep our operation personal. Every hunt is hosted by our family, because we believe relationships matter just as much as the hunting itself. We limit the number of groups we book, carefully manage our property, and focus on creating an experience guests look forward to year after year. Our goal is not simply to help you put up big duck numbers. It is to create the kind of trip you will still be talking about long after the season ends.

The Mallettes

Who you'll
be hunting with

TJ Mallette, owner and operator of Black Duck Waterfowl

TJ Mallette

Owner / Operator

Waterfowl hunting has been TJ's passion for as long as he can remember, from competing in duck calling contests as a kid to spending more than two decades guiding hunters across North America. His experience extends well beyond calling birds: years of scouting, habitat management and retriever work have given him a deep understanding of what it takes to consistently create memorable hunts. Whether he is setting decoys before daylight or calling ducks into the spread, TJ is committed to giving every group the best opportunity each morning.

Ashton Mallette, owner and manager of Black Duck Waterfowl

Ashton Mallette

Owner / Manager

Ashton grew up hunting the Louisiana marshes and has spent years following the migration from Canada to the Mississippi Flyway. While she oversees the day-to-day operations of Black Duck Waterfowl, she is just as likely to be scouting fields, setting decoys, or preparing breakfast and lunch for hunters in the blind. Hospitality has always been a cornerstone here. Ashton believes the experience does not end when the hunt is over, and takes pride in making every guest feel welcomed from the moment they arrive until they head home.

The Ground

Why Missouri

New Madrid County sits in one of the country's great waterfowl corridors.

Our private farm here has earned a reputation for producing quality duck hunting. Through extensive habitat management and disciplined hunting pressure, the property is designed to provide consistent opportunities throughout the migration.
